SMB20 takes the surrounding fabric of small, family owned commercial shops and single family homes and concentrates it to create an urban form appropriate to the increasing density of West Hollywood.
From Santa Monica Boulevard, an exterior staircase invites residents and guests to a street-like path that meanders through a series of intimate landscaped courtyards one level up.
Each of the twenty residences opens directly onto the landscaped path, freeing them from corridors and lobby spaces.
Street-level commercial space provides a base for the units above.
