PROJECT

This project is a roughly 7-minute animation video created based on the Unreal Engine.
The main story revolves around two protagonists, Nathan and Eweka,
along with their respective vehicle, engaging in battles with enemy vehicle

Furthermore, this project was a solo endeavor, where I handled all aspects including planning, production, 3D modeling, and editing.
And this project was created using Unreal Engine as the foundation, incorporating Maya, Substance 3D Painter, Premiere,
and After Effects in the production process

STORYBOARD

This is the planning phase.
The overall planning process began approximately 3 years ago.
Originally, the project was intended to be a 2D animation lasting about an hour.
However, as it transitioned to a solo project, it was condensed into the storyboard below

The following section compares the original storyboard with the actual scenes produced

-

CHARACTER

In terms of characters, from the initial planning stages,
I envisioned the two main protagonists as a wise yet stoic veteran soldier and a young, energetic but emotional character.
I continued to reference character designs based on these two images throughout the process

Furthermore, based on the sketches, I utilized 'MetaHumans' within Unreal Engine for customization.
I then imported this into Unreal and adjusted the characters accordingly.

-

VEHICLE

The vehicle section was crucial in this project.
From the planning stage, the most prominent aspect was the design of the two fighting aircraft. As a short animation,
it couldn't delve into extensive storytelling, so the forms of these robots had to subtly hint at the world they inhabit
and the functions they possess.

The images below showcase the completed scenes.

3D PRODUCTION

The images below feature the completed models of characters, maps, vehicles, etc., inserted into Unreal Engine and outputted
The primary reasons I used Unreal Engine were the 'Nanite' workflow for real-time rendering
and the significantly reduced image rendering times

-

EFFECTS

The most challenging part of this video was depicting the intensity of the battles,
which required a lot of bullets flying and explosions.
For this, I extensively utilized the 'Niagara System' available in Unreal Engine

WORK PROCESS

This is an overview of the entire process spanning about a year.
Broadly, it's divided into planning and production stages.
This division allowed for adjustments to the flow of the story whenever better ideas emerged
