The Sepia Voyage
by Naveed Sadiq & curated by Ussman Ghauri
Thursday August 5, 2010 at Koel Gallery, Karachi, Pakistan.
This body of work began during the process of a series of a small sized miniature paintings titled "Debate of the Saint", where i was dealing with the idea of creating a dialogue between the cultural and religious practices surrounding us, with my own visual vocabulary.
I have continued along those lines and my work has found some definite direction. Traditional practices are my forte and my inspiration is derived from the Persian and Mughal schools in miniature painting. This body of work has strong historical references and the the intention is to translate the traditional imagery of miniature painting in to a contemporary expression.
