ART 235 Project 1: Creative Strategies
The main goal of this project is to create a visual representation of a basic usable object using each of the seven creative strategies. For this assignment, my chosen object was a pencil

Category: Combinations

Title: Time to Draw
It was easy to crop out the original clock hands and then replace them with pencils. However, I had to add a drop shadow to make the pencils more realistic. This piece is successful because the pencils replace the clock hands in a
seamless fashion.

Title: Rising to new heights
Originally, I was going to put a pencil in the middle of a city, but it didn’t look right, so I decided to alter the image to this one. It was easier to the implement the pencil as I just had to crop out the building in center and then use a spot brush to crop out the bottom half of the pencil.  This one works because it takes a small object that can fit in a hand and makes it stand alongside buildings which are some of the largest in the world.

Title: I can't believe it's not a French fry
I decided to go in the opposite direction and not only use one pencil instead of many, but also keep the French fries. Additionally, I used extra effects on the pencil, such as drop shadow, inner shadow, inner glow, and bevel and embross.

This was done well by adding a yellow pencil to the pile of french fries
instead of putting it to the side. This allows it to blend in, but upon closer
inspection the difference begins to show.

Category: Juxtaposition

Title: The pencil is mightier than the sword
I decided to crop the fingers and put them in front of the pencil to make it look like the knight is holding the pencil. I think I did well to replace a sword with a pencil. It also helps show how similar and different a pencil can be to a sword.

Title: Elemental Pencils
I had fun here using background textures of the four basic elements and I think it does well because a pencil can be adorned with multiple colors and can come in many shapes
and sizes.

Title: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder
I cropped out part of the lip gloss and replaced it with the eraser half of the pencil. I originally thought of using the top half of the pencil with the lead, but decided against it. Additionally, I had to crop the hand and adjust it. I think this one is interesting as the similarities between a pencil and lip gloss can be seen, since both can be used to create and leave behind marks.

I think it works because a rocket is very similar in shape to a pencil, so both can be seen as interchangeable. Additionally, both have creative and destructive properties.
