The evolution phases of the horse
Depiction of Lady Anne, Wilfrid Scawen Blunt’s wife with the Arabian horse. Their passion for the Arab horse led the couple to spend much time in Arabia. We can see the juxtaposition of Lady Anne wearing a typical dress from the Oriental country in contrast to her tipycal English cloths. To emphasize the origin of the horse an Arabian pattern was imitated in the background
The Buraq is a horse-like creature from the heavens that transported the Islamic prophets. The Buraq transported the prophet Mohammed from Mecca to Jerusalem and back during the “Night Journey”. The fact that the equine played such an important role in the Quran shows the importance of the horse-men relationship as Mohammed had conveyed to his followers.
“Prophet Mohammed played an inportant role in the comprehension of the horse-men relationship, he called the horse ‘the supreme blessing’ in the koran.”
The first interaction between men and horse was confrontational. Men didn’t see a functional animal that could be domesticated, instead a meal or skin for protection.
Depiction of one of the earliest usage of the chariots. The Hittite Empire were the first people to employ three men in a single chariot, each of them would have a different task and protect each other.
The Persian were the first people to play Polo.
Horses did play a central role in Greek life and are prominent in Greek mythology. The origin of the Centaur tradition is thought to lie in the herds of wild cattle that descended from Mount Pelion in the region of King Ixion and laid waste the plain of Thessaly.
The famous Mio Cid Campeador in his horse Babieca. The image is based on a famous statue displayed at the Mio Cid Plaza in Burgos.
