Branded Ident
This short is part of a series of brand-building interstitials commissioned by Discovery Channel
for the launch of its new identity package across on-air and off-air platforms.
Using the airtime gaps in the schedule, these fillers were meant to build and evolve
the channel’s brand by creating interesting pieces of storytelling
in tune with the channel’s core values.
All the films were produced with the same shoe-string budget.
The brief given to all the directors and production companies involvedwas to tell stories “true to life”. Short-form contents able to gobehind the facts, focused not only on technical facts and figures, butlinked to the personal stories of common people.
I chose to realize 3 shorts portraying skills and passion of 3 different street artists
while performing with their specific piece of equipment.
The movies are shot on Super 16, in slow motion, to try and catch some of the magic
of the moment when the artist and its tool become one, the performer falls into a sort of trance and his movements start to flow in a sort of mysterious dance.
This guy spinning the fire torches is Jossua, a French juggler I found browsing the net.
