Hades & Persephone

Illustrator Hanny Traugott (HDT)

As a Greek mythology enthusiast and lover, the inspiration struck to illustrate the love story of Hades, the underworld king, and Persephone, the goddess of spring. The intention was to capture the exact moment when Persephone returns to Mount Olympus to be with her mother, Demeter, after spending six months with Hades.

The focus was on accentuating the duality inherent in their relationship, primarily through the contrast of colors. I tried to show a kind of bittersweet goodbye between them, bringing out all the feels in their special connection.

In the realm where shadows dance,
Hades found love's sweet chance.
Persephone, a bloom so fair,
Captured his heart in the underworld's lair.

Their love, a tale of night and day,
Six months in shadows, in each other's sway.
Yet, as spring's embrace kissed the air,
Persephone surfaced, a love beyond compare.

A dance of passion, in realms apart,
Hades and Persephone, entwined at heart.
In each season's turn, a love story untold,
Of warmth in darkness and in light, love's hold.

Amidst the cold embrace of the underworld, Hades found warmth in Persephone's gaze, and together, they painted the black canvas of the night with hues of love.

Hades' heart, darkened by the abyss, found its match in Persephone's light, creating a cosmic symphony where love echoes through the underworld.

Thanks!
