Golden Hour Visions: Mason's Point of View
"Pink-ish Sunday Sunset"- Mason Saunders (2024)
Purpose of Portfolio:
This week for our Creative class, we were asked to capture a series of images during the specific period of the day, known as the 'golden hour'. The images within this project, was a collection I captured that best could represent the purpose of this series.
Sunrise vs. Sunset:
Capturing 'golden hour' during either sunrise or sunset, can result in two completely different images. Sunrise images, the sky is more darker since the sun isn't fully risen. Sunset images however, create a more bright reddish sky since the sun has already been up and it's starting to come down for the day. As photographers, lighting really impacts the outcome of the image, since you want to see the subject you want to capture, sunset lighting might be the best natural lighting you want to have (or even midday, but for the purpose of this assignment, sunset). It all depends on the picture you want to create.
Challenges faced capturing 'Golden Hour':
Completing this project, many challenges arose. For starters weather, most days this week impacted the sun from being visible to capture a 'golden hour'. Another challenge was simply just being ready to capture, usually during the time of 'golden hour', I was preoccupied with either school or chores so it was difficult to stop what I was doing and being ready to take that perfect shot. Another challenge was location, during these time periods to capture, my location was not the best to visually see the sun rising or setting.
Final Thoughts:
This assignment caused many challenges, but the pictures captured can definitely be worth it. This project helped me understand the importance of natural light and the effects natural lighting has on an image. It also made me appreciate the natural beauty in this world and how breath taking a simple 'golden hour' can be. 'Golden hour' photography is definitely a series of captures I could do more practice with and hopefully in the future create more captivating results.
Even the sky is an attention seeker.
