Multidisciplinary Design Optimization

Role: Senior Design Engineer / Parametric Modeler
WORK AT DAIMLER TRUCK
In a simple way, I build Parametric model or MDO(Multidisciplinary Design Optimization) for exterior parts of the truck.
What is Parametric Modeling?
Parametric modeling is the process of creating and manipulating 3D models based on parameters, limits, and relationships between geometrical elements.
Parameters:
Parameters are adjustable variables that defines geometry of the model. Parameters can include dimensions, constraint's, formulas and more. The geometry and behavior of the model can be altered by adjusting its parameters.
Benefits of using Parametric Modeling
Design Optimization:
Quickly evaluate and optimize how designs will perform based on particular criteria, like stability or energy efficiency, by connecting parameters with performance indicators.
Flexible design exploration
Easily explore and evaluate different design options by altering the parameters . To create more creative and efficient designs, explore with different configurations, sizes and proportions.
Time and cost savings
Automate repetitive tasks to reduce the time and effort needed to make design changes. Automation saves time and reduces the likelihood of errors, resulting in cost savings during the design process.
Design integrity
Changes made to a parameter automatically apply to the model to maintain design consistency. This helps the possibility of mistakes occurring when changing several design elements by hand.
Example for Parametric Modeling
To demonstrate the parametric modeling-
I developed abstract class A surfaces of the Bus model in Autodesk Maya software
Now create the Parameters and its range
Bus Model changes when Parameters value changes
Displayed 3 different designs
