UTSA Institute of Texan Cultures Sharecropper Cabin Environmental Graphics

In my role, I had the privilege of creating environmental graphics for the sharecropper cabin from the Texas Blackland Prairies at the Institute of Texan Cultures. This cabin is a remarkable Texas treasure, representing one of the state's most significant artifacts. The project, titled 'Tending the Soil,' is a collaborative effort between The UTSA Institute of Texan Cultures, UTSA Libraries, and UTSA Special Collections, to educate visitors about the cabin's history and cultural significance.

The environmental graphics I designed aim to narrate the journey of the 100-year-old cabin from Grimes County to its place on the exhibit floor. They provide detailed insights into the cabin's construction, its role as a sharecropper's dwelling, and its broader historical context. Through informative and engaging visuals, visitors gain a comprehensive understanding of the cabin's significance in Texas history.

Utilizing single-sided wide-format prints made from window cling material, the graphics seamlessly blend into the exhibit space, enhancing the visitor experience while preserving the authenticity of the cabin. This collaborative project underscores the importance of preserving and celebrating Texas' cultural heritage, and the environmental graphics play a crucial role in achieving this goal.

'Tending the Soil' serves as a testament to the value of collaborative efforts in cultural preservation and education. I am proud to have contributed to this project by creating environmental graphics that enrich the visitor experience and highlight the significance of the sharecropper cabin in Texas history.
