Down in the backroom of a curiosity shop, the owner observes the latest addition to his collection: an ominous box containing an object with a dreadful power. Little does he know, however, that two brave friends are looking for it as well to make sure it doesn’t fall into the wrong hands.

Dark and mysterious stories have always been my favourites. I could never get bored of the idea of being part of a brave group of friends who bump into something secret, maybe an old cave with a magical treasure, or a mystical book found in a decrepit house’s attic.

The focal point in this illustration is the unnatural green light that emerges from the box and shines on the curious objects in the room, conveying an unnerving feeling. The mood is emphasised by the violet shadows, in contrast with the warm light coming from the little window.
