The goal of this project was to continue exploring vector technologies and their application through creating an illustration of something that is new or hasn't been seen before. For this project, I chose to go with a newly discovered land animal.
Because I have some interest in myths and legends, I decided to do my project on a cryptid. This creature is loosely inspired by the dingonek, a cryptid from Africa.
Just a dangerous, mysterious predator catching some rays and chilling on a fallen tree...
This illustration was created using a combination of shape building tools and modes on Illustrator and freehand sketching with my Wacom tablet. The shading was done with the gradient tool.
I am mostly happy with the way this turned out. Especially the color palette and the how the creature itself turned out. However, since this was my first time using my Wacom tablet so extensively, I know I made some mistakes with the illustration. The line art and shading are not as clean as I would like them to be. I wasn't really sure how to go about creating the background, either. In the future, if I remake this illustration, I'll see about adding some texture to different objects and adding more detail into the background.
