Mahalaxmi Dhobi Ghat
Mumbai's very own Dhobi Ghat, nestled in the middle of the city right outside Mahalaxmi station, is Asia's largest open air laundromat. Around 5,000 washer folk, also called 'dhobis', reside here. They work in shifts around the clock to wash, dry, and iron the laundry of the city's homes, hotels and hospitals.
In 2011, the Mahalaxmi Dhobi Ghat found a place in the Guinness Book of World Records, for 'most people hand-washing clothes at a single location simultaneously'. 496 washermen were washing clothes at the ghat at the same time.
