Brzeszcze took its name from the blade with which the locals resisted Swedes as well as from a birch called by the people brzozak which grew within areas between ponds or from the mountain elm - brzost. It is not clear on what grounds the first settlement was plundered and destroyed by the Turks. Also, whether the church of St. Odilia burned by the Swedes along with the entire village really existed or was just a legend. Apparently, St. Wojciech even passed by Brzeszcze converting the Czech people. What is more,  Sobieski ordered to plant three lindens in his honor after watering the horses in the river. However, the time of the first mine shaft "Andrzej" appearance has been known to the public for centuries and also when the strangers started arriving to our lands. And Brzeszcze has begun to grow in all directions.
