Alliance of TMC & MGP
The Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) holds a significant historical position in Goa's political landscape. It emerged as the first ruling party in Goa after the end of Portuguese colonial rule in 1961. The MGP assumed power in December 1963 and remained in office until it was ousted by defections in early 1979.
In December 2021, the MGP made headlines by agreeing to a pre-poll alliance with the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) for the Goa elections. As part of the alliance, the MGP decided to contest in 13 constituencies out of the total 40-seat Goa Assembly.
During the election process, the MGP campaigned extensively and put forth its agenda and promises to the people of Goa. The alliance with AITC provided them with added support and resources to reach a wider audience and garner support.
Following the election results, the MGP secured victory in two seats.
