The POL-E-BOT project was my response to a D&AD brief which asked designers and illustrators to 'tell their own story'. The idea was to make your mark as an artist by producing something engaging and original which would tell the story of your creative journey, in a way that was uniquely yours.

The brief stated that the outcome should explain who the individual is - their values, their identity, their purpose, their truth. In D&AD's own words "This is telling, not selling. This project is an opportunity to showcase a knowledge of who you are as an individual... and to be able to communicate it successfully."

I was developing an interest in cut-out graphical shapes and negative space, and had always enjoyed handwritten typography. I decided to combine the two for this project in order to build on my strengths and chose to use papercraft as a medium. I set out choosing my colour schemes and designing the two dimensional character which would come to represent me.

The finished images were put together in a book and are intended to be read as a manual - telling the reader all they needed to know about how to care for their POL-E-BOT. Through letting the readers see through the eyes of POL-E-BOT, I hope to show the audience my own fears, talents, personality traits and creative journey.
