Chico e o Mar é uma banda de Belo Horizonte, formada em 2018. A identidade musical do gruopo migra entre o indie americano e o pop brasileiro, criando assim um som autêntico e impactante. No ano de 2020, fui convidado a desenhar a primeira identidade visual da banda, para um financiamento coletivo. Com o sucesso desse financiamento, em 2022 desenhei a identidade do primeiro álbum da banda, o auto-intitulado “Chico e o Mar”.
Em seu primeiro álbum, a banda abraçou as excitações da juventude em um álbum enérgico e coeso. A pesquisa visual partiu de referên- cias do mundo do skate — paixão dos membros da banda —, e dos impressos efêmeros que desenharam a cena dessa contracultura nos anos 90. O uso de auto contraste fotográfico, de colagem, stic- kers, junto de escritos feitos a mão e uma paleta de cores reduzida, foram ferramentas essenciais na criação de uma estética potente e em uma identidade divertida, lúdica e autêntica.

Chico e o Mar is a band from Belo Horizonte that was formed in 2018. The band's music style is a blend of US-indie and Brazilian pop, which results in an authentic and powerful sound. In 2020, I was invited to design the first visual identity for the crowdfunding campaign of their debut album. The crowdfunding campaign was a successful one, and in 2022, I was invited to design the visual identity of their first album, the self-titled "Chico e o Mar".
The band's first album was a vibrant and cohesive work that captured the youthful excitement of its time. The album's visual style was inspired by the world of skateboarding and its accompanying ephemera prints, which were popular in the 90s among the counter-culture scene. The use of photographic threshold, collage, stickers, hand lettering, and a limited color palette were all essential tools in creating a potent and playful aesthetic, while also establishing an authentic visual identity for the band.
