I have always been fascinated by triptychs and always wanted to make one. Triptychs that I’ve seen usually consists of very different images. They usually tell a story, like those found in Cathedrals, or a concept, like “See No Evil, Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil”.

Inspired, I decided to make a triptych. Even though I’ve resolved to make one, I haven’t got a clue as to what kind of triptych I want to make. Then, for holiday, I went to a Bird Park in Malang, Indonesia, where I came across these owls. Some of them are asleep, some have the classic intense owl stare, and some are somewhere in between. As I look at them I got a concept for my triptych, “The Stare”.

In short, “The Stare” portrays three different intensity of a stare. The top gave you that strong unwavering stare, where the center give a more relaxed look, and the bottom gave the most relaxed look. I can write paragraphs explaining why I choose these three particular looks of the owl, but I’d rather just leave it here.
