The shortest Day

by Stefan F. Wirth

The shortest day of the year is the day of the winter solstice. As long as there is daylight, everything looks as usual. Or not? The low position of the sun and the knowledge that it would be dark so early made my eyes see in an unusual way. I saw colors where there were none and felt a special loneliness in the middle of calm nature, which at the same time inspired me and then made me look closely, feel, experience, and become one with the surroundings.

Where everything rests and is surrounded by mysterious light, life stirs in the forest floor beneath my feet. Millipedes, mites and Collembola do their work. They create new humus, the breeding ground of all forests.
