The guy's name is Mr. Squifox.
In fact the drawing is a self-portrait. Not that I am a fox, but a while ago I faced a unique depressive mood and decided to reflect it in the image. So the fox is a reflection of a depressed soul - something like that.
Here you can see stages of the work. Actually, most of the stages were not very obvious, so I've rendered the most radical changes into a gif-sequence.
