ART DIRECTION (WITH FINAL ASSETS)
DESIGN PROCESS
MOODBOARDS
Our first step was gathering assets and determining what theme we wanted to show through the graphics. We decided on utilizing shaper lines, a more modern typeface (Industry) along with Greek and older university imagery.
DIRECTIONS
I created three different directions based on our moodboard sessions. Each had a unique theme (and I ended up pulling elements from each one in the end), and the feedback I received was to pursue the aesthetic of column two with the player card layout of column one.
LOGOS
Finalizing the logo is an important process in art direction, so we wanted to establish it before moving on to the full design process. The client wanted a text based logo, which made it easier. I went through a few rounds of exploration (left) before we landed on the final variations (right)
SCREEN DESIGN
Rivals National Signing Day is an hour long live show that covers all of the recruiting updates that come with the December deadlines. So I was tasked with designing screens that could be updated in real time, but still having a high end feel (while also translating to both large tv displays or small smartphone screens).
SOCIAL DESIGN
While the live show was the initial focus, the coverage extended to social media as well. Using the same art direction, I designed a number of different screens to be used for Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, and more. The challenge here was balancing the more abstract design elements with the necessity of clear eligibility, as communicating the recruiting news was the top priority.
THUMBNAIL DESIGN
Being a video show, many clips translated well to YouTube. The goal here was to have clear branding and enough variety that as many clips as possible could be posted with a relatively unique thumbnail to both inform the viewer and draw their attention.
