This project was born out of an obsessive interest in science, time and cosmology, alongside a love for design, web technology and visual communication. I hope it will be a useful visual tool for students and teachers, as well as any human who is interested in this, hard to comprehend, but beautiful and wondrous subject of geological time.

Our planet has been in existence for 4.5 billion years, or 4500 million years. This is an incredibly vast amount of time which is hard to wrap one’s head around. The thought of one million years is mind-bending enough, never mind… one, two, three, and four billion!

The aim of this project was to try and put this huge time expanse into perspective in a visual sense, offering interactivity to explore the various stages of the Earth’s history using a 12 hour clock analogy.
