This is a quick design created for Tigerprint's 'Gifted' competition.  I was inspired by the category 'Festival Spirit/Summer' - but as I'm not much of a festival goer, I went ahead full-force with the summer theme. Clearly still in that 'sunshine state of mind' after returning home from a recent holiday, I created something very bright, vibrant and loud based around the simple image of a cocktail. At first, I thought I'd overworked the image - but the more I look at it the more I quite like the vibrancy and the mixture of different textures and effects. I wouldn't say I'm 100% happy with it and there's parts of it I would like to re-work, but to say it was a quick, spontaneous design I'm pretty pleased.

 

The image has been created with a mix of pencil drawings, paint textures, line work, hand-drawn pattern, photographs and digital painting.  Ideally, I would have like to have retained more of the original pencil work, but I definitely think the bright colour and textured nature of the design works for the theme. I experimented with Instagram styled filter effects after the image was completed to see how I could possibly emphasise different colours and tones within the design and I really like how it appears on a phone screen.  The added quote is in-keeping with the young, fresh and spontaneous theme and taps into current trends.
