The festival Vurnik days commemorates the main Slovenian, fin de siecle arhitect, Ivan Vurnik and his wife Helena Kottler Vurnik. They both contributed to expand the art nouveau wave in Slovenia. To celebrate the 130th anniversary of Ivan Vurnik birth the Centre of Arhitecture organized a major festival in Radovljica, SI.
Dualism is a characteristic that reflects the Vurniks. On the one hand refinement and uniformity of architecture, both the external facade as interior decoration, distinctive for Art Nouveau style; on the other hand, the purpose of the architecture use, directly typical for functionalism.
Exactly this characteristic includes the festival identity of Vurnik's days. Half shows Ivan Vurnik and Helena Kottler Vurnik close cooperation in Jugendstil, the selection of colors and motif that appears in the Cooperative Business Bank in Ljubljana. The second half shows the clarity, rigor, rationality, which is reflected in the later parts of the architecture of functionalism.
