Architectuur tussen stad en academia (KOPIE)

'Architectuur tussen stad en academia'
Student home located in a forest. Patio typology. View on terrace next to collective room, the first view when entering the building. The focus of the building lies on the simplicity of a structure of rooms around a quiet and natural inner area.
One facade of a building that consists of three major parts. Fully left: community space lifted. Reachable by a long soft slope which emphasizes the walk to the community building where people come together, parties and exhibitions are being given. It's a festive procession. Behind the slope, we have a series of rooms which store green waste, but also rolling materials etc. Full transparancy makes interaction between the passant and what happens behind. As the facade lies at a pierce through the forest. It is meant to be a meaningful and interactive given. To the outer right stands the third part of the building: Workspace on the groundfloor and two appartments above. The wole embraces an inner area which is for very utilitarian purposes. Workspace. The appartments at the right are situated at a residential street. The community space stands at the junction of the pierce and a square which is sort of the main entrance of the whole site. A junction which should be signaled by the architecture.
view from 'de pintelaan', a mainly residential street. On your left is ISG, international school Ghent. On your right stands the facade of the appartments and workspace partly. The pierce is assisted by a hardened path which allows smooth circulation. The path is literally the groundfloor of the building extruded so that the forest ground remains intact. There is contrast between a dead face to the left and otherwise a lively facade on the right.
Implantation of the buildings on the site 'de sterre' in Ghent. Focus on three main areas. First one is the pierce I already wrote about. It links the residential street called the 'Pintelaan' with a square on the corner of the whole site.
Floor plan of the student home. Main entrance is situated in the upper left corner. That's where the building forms a climax. The round form bends out and ends in the corner. The student rooms are sighted either to the patio or the forest around, because of privacy reasons. Collective rooms are bedded in the building and give the opportunity to go out and discover the forest.
Floor plans of the other building. The middle part consists of three pierces: above, in the building itself is a functional pierce which forklifts to circulate horizontally. The slope as an interactive, festive procession to the community space and a hardened path which aligns the building, goes underneath the community space and ends up at the square. An awning seperates the inner, functional area to the right and the natural area to the left. At the same time it's a covered space for multiple use and the other, more functional entrance of the community room.
