Object Abstraction

Object Abstraction
Project Description and Objective
Students will learn how to abstract the drawing of a simple, transparent object into a black and white graphic abstraction (which is used by artists and designers to create vector graphics, logos, icons, etc.). Students will focus on object representation through various shape and line treatment, as well as positive and negative spatial relationships. Students will also learn how to apply rhythm and texture to their shapes and lines. The final abstractions will be carefully rendered in colored pencil and black ink.
The Four Drawings
Drawing 1   (base form) graphic abstraction, true to original image/object in black ink
Drawing 2   organic/biomorphic shapes, legato use of shape/line in color pencil with analogous color
Drawing 3   geometric shapes, staccato use of shape/line in color pencil with a color triad
Drawing 4   use texture and/or pattern instead of shapes/lines in black ink
