ABOUT 329
Since 2008, any mention of Greece is immediately associated with crisis - a label which seems to have attached itself to the country. But how do the Greeks themselves see the crisis? What are its everyday connotations? Does it have its own face, sound or smell? Whether one has or not experienced the Greek political and financial crisis directly, its social repercussions are surely worthy of reflection.
On a quest for answers to these questions, young, ambitious artists from Greece have used their own unconventional methods to create original pieces of art. Twelve pieces, ranging from simple paintings to multimedia installations, are featured in the 329 Exhibition curated by Olympia Tzortzi, and to be held from February 28th to March 8th in Vienna at the WUK Project Space. The show is organized by the Künstlerisch Unabhängige Plattform (KUP) and supported by the Greek Embassy.
The 329 Exhibition sheds a different light on the crisis, dwelling less on the political or financial situation and more on people's daily lives and rhythms in a society in turmoil. Twelve original works, housed in a dedicated space and inspired by the theme above, make up the body of the exhibition and offer the visitor insight and a more personal understanding of the delicate issues involved. The event is complemented by a series of three lectures held by scholars from the Universities of Vienna and Hamburg.

‘’The best way to make your dreams come true is to wake up” (Paul Valery 1871-1945). In this artwork sleep is portrayed as a passive response, or one of fear, in an ever-changing world. Do we close our eyes in order to deny the reality around us, or do we just hope that everything is a bad dream and that when we wake up it will all be over?"
