Like many others, I was unaware that slavery still exists nowadays in almost every country in the world. Coming from this, I decided to find out about the different types of slavery and why they were still present in the 21st century and gathered my findings in a 22-page book. I developed my own visual language to portray the facts I discovered to keep the reader engaged long enough to take in as much information as possible whilst enjoying the book visually.
I enjoyed the constant challenge that this task represented and hope that everybody took something from this book. Alongside my hand-bound book, I created a minute-long animation to not only talk about modern slavery but also fight it with my own means.
The book’s main content was digitally printed and manually bound in a concertina fold with a professional binding tape. The inside casing was made of recycled pulp paper and screen printed onto. The outside casing was also screen printed onto both sides to have enough space for information on the subject. This outside casing was an original template I designed to give the reader a sense of involvement whilst exploring the product.
I created this project for my Final Year Degree Show and was exhibited to the public for two weeks in Southampton.
