Western Technical College Video View Book - Bringing Campus to Life
As the producer and director for Western Technical College's (WTC) transformative Video View Book, I aimed to transcend the traditional campus tour experience. Tasked with showcasing the campus's vibrant atmosphere, classrooms, labs, recreational spaces, and off-campus program locations, I worked alongside WTC's marketing director to bring their vision to life.
The project kicked off with a collaborative brainstorming session. Stepping into subsequent client meetings, I provided insight on what was achievable within the budget constraints and helped compile a list of essential shots.
Crafting the script involved meticulous coordination to meet the shoot window, available resources, and budget. Drawing on my intimate knowledge of the spaces gained during my time as a student at WTC, I collaborated closely with the client to refine the script, ensuring it aligned seamlessly with their vision. With a polished script in hand, I initiated the casting process for our lead actor, assembled a team of production assistants, and helped the client finish up the shoot schedule.
Over five days during the summer of 2021, we executed a dynamic and engaging shoot, capturing the essence of WTC's campus life. We only experienced a few minor sound control issues like having to wait for maintenance to move to another area or for traffic to pass. But, the hard work I put into planning the shots, creating an effective shoot schedule, and showing up on set prepared every day really paid off as we wrapped the shoot a half day early, which saved our client time and money.
The video features a WTC "student" and the school's mascot providing an informative, humorous, and fast-paced tour. Whether navigating through spaces or static shots, the goal was to offer a genuine sense of being on campus without physically being there. The video concludes with a stunning drone shot, providing a captivating aerial perspective.
The client's satisfaction is a testament to the project's success. The video held a prominent position as featured content on WTC's website for a year, underscoring its impact as a compelling and enduring promotional tool.
