The Odissean Experience

The Odissean Experience

Brief: Create a brochure to take prospective clients through The Odissean Experience offerings.

Key objectives: Resonate luxury, tell the brand's story and take readers through a journey.

Process: Create mood boards. Develop and present three potential concepts. Take the chosen concept through to a complete first draft. Action revisions and amends, prepare artwork for print and manage printers to ensure the project is delivered on time and within budget.

My role: Design lead, working with input from my Creative Director and fellow designers at Toast Design.

The Box & Cover Design

The book is elegantly presented within a specially crafted box, enveloped in GF Smith Color Plan paper. The logo is printed in gold iridescent ink, imparting a touch of sophistication to the wrap. The deliberate selection of a white box with gold accents is aimed at cultivating a brand image that is not only clean and minimal but also exudes a sense of luxury.

To further enhance the book's visual identity, a custom logo was designed specifically for the cover. This logo features a simple yet refined letter mark, showcasing the initials 'OE.' The logo is embossed onto the cover, adding a tactile and visually striking element to the overall presentation.

Design Choices

Throughout the collaborative development process with my client, we underwent extensive testing of various fonts, colors, and layouts. The overarching goal was to encapsulate the essence of 'minimal elegance,' aspiring to align with distinguished brands such as Rolls Royce, Bentley, and Cartier.

In pursuit of this aesthetic, we curated a restrained color palette, with a primary focus on a classic yet opulent dark green. Complementary accents of duck blue and gold were incorporated to enhance visual appeal. Font selection played a pivotal role in achieving the desired elegance, with Didot Italic Pro chosen for headings, celebrated for its graceful aesthetic. In contrast, Axiforma was selected for subheadings, offering a modern counterpoint to the classic italics of the headings, while Gill Sans was chosen for the body copy, prioritizing excellent legibility.

The image selection process was carefully curated to communicate luxury and affluence, aligning seamlessly with the brand's target audience. Notably, the brand's strong values and roots in Greek Mythology were woven into select pages, contributing a distinctive and meaningful layer to the overall narrative and design. This holistic approach aimed to not only convey a sense of luxury but also to resonate with the brand's ethos and origins.

Conclusion

The book launch proved to be a resounding success, as the client distributed the initial run of 50 copies to potential clients. The feedback received was overwhelmingly positive, prompting the client to engage our agency for a subsequent project. They have commissioned us to develop a second book, intended for distribution to members upon their sign-up. This positive response underscores the effectiveness of the initial book launch and highlights the client's confidence in our agency's ability to deliver impactful content for their audience.
