INTRODUCTION

Spacestation Gaming hired me to create the weapon skin for their R6Share Full Kit 2024 including other in-game items such as a headgear, uniform and card background for the operator "Pulse" in the multiplayer first person shooter "Rainbow Six Siege" developed by Ubisoft.

The challenge was to create an elegant and premium weapon skin that fits the rest of the items of the bundle and also presents Spacestation Gaming and their signed content creator Jynxzi. In the following I will present the designs we created for each part of the project.

The headgear, uniform and card background have been designed by other artists.

WEAPON SKIN

The weapon skin design is without a doubt the most important item of an R6Share bundle, which is why it should have top priority.

Pulse's weapon in the game is the UMP-45, a submachine gun developed and produced by German firearms manufacturer Heckler & Koch.

We wanted to create a more classic Siege weapon skin with this design which is why we chose to go in a more elegant direction instead of using illustrations. We played around with different textures such as black ice and similar but ended up using an obsidian texture.

The base texture gets broken up by golden veins that run along the sharp edges of the Obsidian, inspired by the Japanese art called "Kintsugi" which is known for repairing broken pottery by mending the areas of breakage with urushi lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum. As a philosophy, it treats breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, rather than something to disguise.

CARD BACKGROUND

The card background is the two dimensional graphic which can be potrayed behind the selected operator in-game. It shows in the main menu and in the operator selection screen mid-game.

This design features various insider jokes and references to Jynxzi in the form of stickers with text and illustrations.

PROMOTIONAL CONTENT

Each time new R6Share bundles are introduced to the game, Ubisoft creates a trailer from in-game footage to share on social media, promotional graphics showing all bundles from the drop, and individual graphics for each bundle to use in the in-game store and on social media.
