Opuntia's motif is inspired on the traditional Cactus plant, (in spanish, known as "Nopal") . After outlining the picture, I used natural inks coming from the cochineal, which are found on Nopal leaves.
Through a simple process, the powder obtained from cochineals can be mixed with different
substances, which depending on their PH, offer a wide gamma of colors.
After having the main motif, I digitalized it and made a pattern.
The result is a an extravagant picture with butterfly and eye like figures.
Opuntia was one of the 5 finalist projects in the first edition of the "Feria de Diseño"//Design Fair, hosted by Hotel Demetria in Guadalajara, Mexico.
