Approach
While making this poster I had to narrow down the themes of West Side Story to the most essential parts to decide what imagery must be represented in the poster. At its core, the story is about a conflict between Puerto Rican immigrants and Italian-descended New Yorkers whose individuals find a common ground which is why I chose to place the Puerto Rican and US flags over a New York City building. I also found it important to show the street sign as a representation of choice between which way one will go and have it be a dotted halftone red to stand out on the grayscale background with the title in bright yellow text contrasting the deep red.
