Hypocrisy of American Slavery Publication

For this publication design, I was tasked to “redesign history.” I was given a historical speech and was instructed to create a 20 page, maximum of 3 color publication that incorporated at least one
special feature.

I chose the speech “The Hypocrisy of American Slavery,” by Frederick
Douglass. This speech was a shock to everyone in Douglass’ time and was meant to shed light on the hypocrisy of American celebrations of freedom. Every page of the publication is unique while maintaining the same style, and the speech is laid out in a way that highlights the most important words, phrases, and sections. I incorporated special features in my book by cutting out letters on the front cover to reveal the real title of the speech, and by cutting a hole through one of the pages to reveal the underlying
message (pictured).

Finally, I printed and hand-bound the publication.
