Amnesty International

It was late 2007, and the world could not ignore the shocking treatment, deaths and abuse of monks protesting in Myanmar. It truly felt as though the situation in Myanmar had gone on for far too long, and the latest was just another brutal instalment of a fundamentally evil and corrupt regime.
The idea for this newspaper was quite simple. Although this was front page news - and Amnesty had quickly responded to this issue - it was part of a fundraising appeal that was sent out to Amnesty supporters in early 2008 and needed to work as a ‘reminder’ of an intolerable, ongoing situation and that this needed to remain ‘front page’ news.
By using a mix of strong colours, silhouettes (which masked the detail), high contrast photographs and bold typography this allowed the reader to focus on the main proposition, all delivered in a format that would be familiar – a newspaper.
