Illustration – bacteria strangulate host cell nucleus

Illustration for my portfolio based on a recently published study in the journal Cell. Researchers from Germany, among others, have observed how the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis forms long strands and can therefore even constrict and strangulate the nucleus of the host cell. This means that the cell can produce fewer defense and messenger substances and therefore cannot hold off the pathogen.
