Rhyming Pairs (Image-Making) - GAD 2001

"Tree Key" Collage
"Lizard Wizard" Graphic
Approach/Process:

Tree Key Collage:
First I was exploring with lots of textures in the collage and trying to make the background feel like metal and wood combined. Then I switched to having the "key" in more of a doorway and lock setting so it would be easier of a concept to grasp with a less distracting background. I had done an illustrative version of this as well, but ultimately decided to do this one as the collage, and lizard wizard as my illustration. I experimented with photoshop and masking to get the wood affect on the key all the way down, and to get it to look like the hand was holding the key.

Lizard Wizard Illustration:
For this concept I wanted to have a lot of fun, and keep it light, funny, and happy. I was pushed to experiment with hand drawing the parts and then adding them together in Adobe. Overall, it went very well. There were definitely difficulties while using this method, however, I liked the fun line quality it produced, which ended up producing a very fun design. Before settling on this illustration, I had also experimented with the concept "Frog Job" which is shown in the photo grid as well.
