Modern day college learning can look very cookie cutter; lectures, assignments, and exams. People, however, are much more diverse, and thus have diverse learning needs. Because of these differences, current learning environments often fall short of providing every student with the tools and resources they need to succeed. Different students need different ways to interact with the subjects they are learning in order to get the most out of their education.  And so...
How might we personalize learning environments in class for students?
User Research
Using a combination of survey responses and interviews, my team and I gathered data about current learning environments on UC Berkeley's campus. The survey gave us an idea of what learning style most preferred, which turned out to be visual learning. We also found that most students did not feel that the campus' learning enivronments were very personalized for their learning benefit. From our interviews, we discovered that it is very common among students to uses outside sources, such as YouTube, to supplement their learning.

This ideation process was easiest for me to write everything I was thinking at once. From the key insights, I knew I wanted my solution to be super accessible, low cost, and easy to use. Although some of the ideas shown would require system wide change in the university, I did keep in mind that an external resource would be more viable, which led to the final prototype.
Lo-Fi Prototype
These were sketches of two of my ideas from the brainwriting, you will later see I decided to go with an external website.
Mid-Fi Prototype
This idea stemmed from my second lo-fi prototype. I loved the idea of something similar to the course catalog being avaliable to students with information on the subjects they most need help with.
Hi-Fi Prototype
Here is the higher fidelity of my mid-fi prototype. I love colorful things, but still wanted to keep it sleek, simple, and clean.
