This is a poster of Matariki I did for my design project which I was quite proud of. Matariki is a significant cultural event in Māori culture, also known as the Māori New Year. It is marked by the appearance of the Pleiades star cluster in the Southern Hemisphere, usually in late May or early June. Matariki is a time for Māori communities in New Zealand and other Pacific islands to come together, reflect on the past year, and celebrate new beginnings. It involves traditional rituals, storytelling, feasting, and acknowledging the interconnectedness of nature and people. Matariki is a symbol of renewal, a time to honor ancestors, and a celebration of indigenous culture and heritage. I wanted my poster to represent and showcase aspects related to Matariki and its culture. That's why I decided to use a night sky for my background, dot little stars around the place and put mountains in the background because all are associated with Matariki. I put a pair of hands in the middle placing a Matariki star decoration to show how significant stars are to this holiday. I made it the center piece of the poster so the viewer focuses on it and to enhance it even more I made it glowing. Below is the process I went through to make it.
