Seeds of Inspiration
Experiments with shading and texture techniques
Seeds of inspiration is a personal digital art experimentation project in which I experimented with different shading and texture techniques in order to refine the feel of my artworks, to give them more "grip" and a more natural overall look, as well as rendering the background more abstract and soft to lay more focus on the main motif and thus creating a balanced, less cluttered final artwork.
For a whimsical, playful feel I created a seamless leaf pattern which I then used with a mask as a stroke based shading on the hair, the grass and the dress.
The abstract backgrounds are created with digital watercolor brushes, thus avoiding sharp edges while creating a soft feel through slight transparency.
For the skin I created an abstract texture with various watercolor and effect brushes, the difference is subtle but leads to a more natural overall impression. To add a more traditional art feel as a final touch I added an watercolor paper texture from the artifex forge's papercraft bundle.
