The Analogue Drum Tapes
When Samplephonics asked if I had any ideas for a new sample bank I knew I wanted to do something really special. Drum loops always sound clinical and that has as much to do with the drummers feel and it does with the sonic quality of the recordings.

The idea was to get a great session player (Matthew Christensen from Vuvuvultures) into an analogue recording focused studio (Lynch Mob Studios, London) and get the grittiest drum sound we could.

From mixing down onto tape machines to using old hi-fi speakers as kick drum mics, we pulled out every trick we knew to get a warm, energetic sound. This sample pack is the result.
Some of the mounds of analogue gear at Lynch Mob Studios, including the Ampex 2-Track we used for bus saturation and mixing.
Matty laying into it during the grueling 12 hour recording session
Myself and engineer Max, mixing as we went.
