During my most recent course of studies, I've had the opportunity to create two virtual spaces to be uploaded into the Metaverse.
These spaces were meant to act as virtual art galleries, with a focus on inclusivity: they had to be easy to navigate and yet striking in appearance. Thus, I designed the two Corridors.
The first Corridor was the most intricate one to design. For a while I was stuck on this image of something cyclical, a loop on a Mobius strip. But making the whole structure one single Mobius strip would have missed the point of accessibility, so I opted for an 8-shaped (as a reference to infinity) circuit.
The hare and the fox were not a last minute addition, but rather a part of my initial concept of loops and cycles. I wanted to pack in the scenery some kind of mobile sculpture, to accentuate the character of the Corridor.
As I got towards the end and testing, I realized I was missing a counterpart - something simpler. But I didn't want simplicity to equal "lazy", and so I designed the second corridor paying more attention to the textures.
I have a passion for patterns, so I tried to simulate a colorful ceramic tiling for the floor. The curtains were meant to be a simple barrier to deviate attention from the surroundings and pull focus to the artworks that were to be placed on the pillars.
Eventually, I decided to simulate some kind of brocade texture with a heron-inspired pattern.
