The Heartland of America Park Omaha Nebraska

The newly redeveloped and redesigned Heartland of America Park in Omaha Nebraska USA opened this fall. It is part of a multimillion dollar development project to revitalize the downtown Omaha community into the new RiverFront comprising the new Gene Leahy Mall (you’ll find the photographic documentary somewhere on this site), the Heartland of America Park and Fountain and the Lewis and Clark Landing along the old Riverfront Road with the new Kiewit Luminarium (a subject for another documentary).

As usual, I spent sometime in this incredibly beautiful, walkable, and calming park both in the daytime and nighttime to bring you some of my joyful moments in a place that I had previously spent countless hours before this latest redesign and redevelopment.

The highlight for me was the ‘Shark’ which is a pier overlooking the Missouri River. Going through the belly of the ‘Shark’ and approaching the overlook of the mighty Missouri and gazing unto Harrah’s casino and the Tom Hanafan River’s edge plaza in adjoining Council Bluffs Iowa was IT for me. I love the night view. I love the Missouri too. I had covered two of its major floods in Omaha over the years. A retro look at downtown Omaha from the ‘Shark’ particularly at night is breathtaking.

All of the three components of the River Front flow seamlessly into each other giving you an opportunity to trail from one to the other over land, bridges and railway crossings. These parks are easily accessible and getting around is not difficult at all.
