Do a good deed - Digital Painting (IL200-2)

This digital painting is the my favorite of the three digital illustrations within a larger brief focused on engaging and testing our digital illustrative abilities.

It depicts my interpretation of the Egyptian proverb/aphorism "Do a good deed and throw it in the sea.", which I interpreted symbolically, with the ethereal girl gently releasing her 'good deeds' into the dark depths of the ocean. I decided to use a Van Gogh inspired, painterly style -which I have used in the past for traditional painting- to test whether I could achieve the same look and feel digitally, and because I think it emphasizes the dreamy, surreal composition and mood. This technique allowed me to create a glowing effect on the stars and moon(both in the sky and sea).

the following is the mood board that inspired my composition (images sourced online)
REFLECTION

This was not my first digital painting, but it was one of the first ones I did using photoshop, and my skills in the program have improved a lot since. If I were to redo this digital painting I would put more time into the water, as it is the only area I am not totally satisfied with (water is very hard). But overall I am still very proud of this artwork, and actually have it mounted in my home as a reminder of my progress in digital art.
