Fading Traditions | Spirograph

Something that I realized I have been missing playing with it. I was trying to remember its name but I could not. “That colorful thing that can draw lots of spirals!” I searched on Google, [plastic tool that produce spirals]; look through to find the right image and wa-la! Found it!

A tradition is the transmission of ritual, belief or object passed down within a society from generation to generation.

It is call Spirograph!

To me, craft is an important factor that seems to be missing now or not the priority anymore.

People are always pressing for time, working non-stop, too occupied by many things that they have lost something in them that is craft, an experience that is unique to all individual.

I am addressing the issue of pacing down and making craft of your own or even to do things other than being occupied by electronic devices is still going on.

It is something that was a fad in the past in Singapore, where parents would buy this ‘toy’ for their children to play with. We did not have much information about it then. We just got enticed by it. It was suitable and amusing at that time but as compared to now, children are more attracted to computers/ smart phones more than anything.

Craft is gradually decreasing in our lives. Many played it before but didn’t even know its name.

I hope through this Spirograph Party, parents and their children can foster bonding through craft instead of technology. Both parents and kids could find time to draw together. And they will get to know Spirograph, the wonderful and inspiring drawing tool!

Hopefully, after attending Spirograph party, they would take out paper and Spirograph to create more Spirals instead of picking up their Iphone to play.

Craft is important and we should never lose it.
