This was a series of three illustrations for cards to be given out as souvenirs as part of a VM exhibition. The theme of the exhibit revolved around the concept of a King, Queen and Jack in context of the Jutti making craft of Patiala, India.
The King is the Customer with the ultimate power of financial capacity
The Queen is the Retailer who gets to mediate between the craft and the market
The Jack ends up being the craftsmen left only with his tools and undying skill.
The concept was created to explain the power struggle faced by traditional artisans in claiming a livelihood despite having the most indispensable ingredient in the game- the skill of craft.
The motifs were inspired by traditional, geometric forms seen in most Punjabi crafts such as Phulkari, Dhurrie weaving and the embellishments of Juttis.
