DYRENES BESKYTTELSE
In this assignment we got to work with 'Dyrenes Beskyttelse' which is an animal protection NGO in Denmark. They are doing a new school programme for children between 3 - 12 years old. Our assignment was to make their new visual universe, with a webside and a concept for the programme.
Some process of how I worked with colors and different shapes. My main focus was the youngest children in the kindergarden age, I wanted to work with the 5 different senses and how children learn and grow through their senses in that age. Instead of learning about animals and nature through a screen I wanted the children to engage more actively with their surroundings and make nature and empathy for animals a common activity throughout their day.
The visual elements
The colors was chosen mainly with a focus on primary colors which is the colors children can see clearly. I also made som different tests to see what associations people had with different color palettes, this one had associations such as "kindergarden," "forest,"forest lake," "Lego." so It was very child friendly while still giving associations of nature.

Each of the shapes represent a different sense, those are the only shapes/figures through the whole design, where we see them in different sizes.

The typography was chosen after researching what typography was the most easily read by children, because I thought that it was important that the text felt easy and accessible for the children in that age group, because most of them are starting to read and recognize letters.
The webside was made mainly for the adults (parents and kindergarden teachers) to use, so I wanted to make it easily accessable. Not too much text or very difficult to navigate, especially because the adults would mostly use the webside while being with one or more kids, so they would not have a lot of time to read long text explanations or think about how to navigate the webside. It had to be easy to use and intuitive.
My concept was to make a sensory blanket, the first picture shows a rough visualization of how it would look, the last three pictures shows a small prototype I sewed myself. The blanket is inspired by other sensory blankets for small children and babies. Centering the children's senses I wanted to make a blanket where the kids would get small assignments. They would have to go outside and look after things. Every thing they had to find would be representing a different sense, such as: Find something a rabbit likes to eat, or something that a dog like to smell. This could be a carrot and lavender (which I through my research found out that dogs apparently likes to smell).

The children would go out and find all of these different things and sense what animals likes and dislikes through their own senses. They would find all these things and put them in the pockets of the blanket where they would end up with a fully assembled blanket.
