To Go To. Jorge Queiroz | Arshile Gorky
ALL RIGHTS RESERVED CALOUSTE GULBENKIAN FOUNDATION
This exhibition stems from the convergence of two artists: a modern figure, Arshile Gorky (Khorkom, Armenia, c. 1904 – Sherman, Connecticut, 1948), and a contemporary artist, Jorge Queiroz (Lisbon, 1966). The initial idea was simply to observe how Gorky's work "speaks" to Queiroz. However, Queiroz transformed the project into an installation where he welcomes, or receives, a visit from Gorky. As he mentions in a text written for the exhibition, he "frequented Gorky until he embraced him in his vision of the exhibition (…) and Gorky was there [at the exhibition, in the studio] almost always seated in black and white, much like in his photograph.
