Dapat Studio's profile

Dapat Studio brand identity

Dapat is a Filipino studio that uses design to bring us closer to what should be available to all—a more joyful, just, equitable world.

Established as Works of Heart Design Studio in 2012, the founding team saw the studio as a way for passionate creatives to contribute their skills to nation-building. A decade later, we wanted our convictions to speak more firmly and bravely, as the world demanded more from design, more from us.

Works of Heart brand applications throughout the years.

WHAT WE ENVISIONED
Our entire brand is anchored on the reason we exist: To design the futures we deserve.

We saw that Filipinos deserve and need better. All Filipinos should be able to have a good life, however they imagine it to be. We believe design can do something about this, most especially when it’s done together.

We found that our original name, Works of Heart, no longer aligned with our renewed purpose. We decided to rename our studio to Dapat, which means "should" or "must" in many Filipino languages. For us, Dapat is not only a name but a commitment, to pursue the futures we deserve through design.

HOW WE DESIGNED IT
Our brand identity is built around the pixel, a metaphor for the power of the collective and a visual motif that is meant to evolve and expand. This motif trickles down to our logo, which is two arrows meeting, forming a sun—representing the convergence of people bringing the brightness of tomorrow. Our brand colors are inspired by sunrises, which mark the beginning of a new day.

In the spirit of collaboration and creativity, we encourage our team members to experiment and inject their unique personalities into our various brand applications, from customizing their business card colors to creating social media content.

We launched our rebrand through an interactive exhibit, Designing Futures, featuring our work from the past decade.
