English Speaking Players as In-Game Content

In 2006 I taught a graduate distance education course at SUNY Potsdam and I tasked them with serving as English tutors to an 8th grade class Qibao High School in Shanghai China.  The point of this exercise was to explore if this was even possible and learn about learner attitudes and aptitudes in the domain. In 2006 internet speed made the communication a challenge, but the core idea was successful Playing games together stimulates natural conversation and motivates learning. Our presentation was covered by MTV.
I presented a summary of the experiment at the Game Develope's Conference with Kai Zheng, now a game designer on Genshin Impact, formerly with the game series Crysis.
